Four Advantages of Using Fiber Optic Pool Lighting

Fiber optic pool lighting is fast becoming the next best thing in the world of pool lighting and lighting alternatives. Fiber optics is a very unique way of lighting anything from pools to museums. Fiber optics is made out of very fine, long strands of perfect glass. They are barely the diameter of a single human hair. These cables are often clumped and bound together in what is referred to as an optical cable. The fiber optic cable consists of three parts which include the core, cladding and buffer coating. A fiber optic cable can consist 10, 50, 100 or thousands of individual fiber optic cables. Light transmits through the fiber optic cable by internal reflection. Light enters the core and then reflects off of the cladding until it reaches its destination. The information included in the article that follows will explain the advantages of fiber optic pool lighting.

1. Protects Pool Color

A lot of money is often spent on keeping the color of the pool inner walls fresh and vibrant. The sun, as well as traditional light bulbs, gives off ultraviolet light. The ultraviolet light that is produced can dull the color of the paint or the fiberglass gel surface. It will even dull metal, plastic and vinyl so no pool is really safe from it. Underwater pool lights often stay in all the time or when it is dark out regardless if the pool is in use or not. If you keep your pool covered when it is not in use the fiber optic pool lighting will not sped up the fading of the color.

2. Long Lasting

The main advantage with using fiber optic pool lighting is that fiber optic wires rarely ever fail. As long as the jacket remains in one piece or the fiber optic strands are not subjected to chemicals they will last nearly forever. The one thing that would need to be changed is the light source. Even this can be avoided if you happen to use a light source that used LED lighting. The fact that they last this long automatically saves you replacement and maintenance costs.

3. No Heat

Every light source you can think of emits some sort of heat. Traditional light bulbs will burn you if you touch it due to the heat that it generates. LED lights even give off heat albeit not too much and will most likely not burn you unless a short happens within the wires. The way that fiber optic pool lighting generates light does not produce heat. There is also no heat emitted through the fiber optic wires. What this means for you is that you don't have worry about lights burning out on you or expensive replacements.

4. Waterproof

It's not a question of the fiber optic strands being waterproof as they are impervious to water. They simply can be submersed in water and left there indefinitely. This makes fiber optic pool lighting a cherished commodity that you can install or have installed that will last for years underwater.
