Israel plans to build a national optical fiber broadband network

Israel is following the footsteps of many countries plan to establish their own national broadband network. Israeli state-owned Electric Power Company plans to lay fiber-optic network to provide at least a rate of 100Mbps broadband in home. They deliberately chose optical fiber to expand the scale of the network, and network speed theoretically could reach 1Gbps.

In order to save time, one part of the project can be achieved through the use of the power company's existing overhead line infrastructure , rather than by way of fiber in the ground.
Israeli private companies be required before January 31, bid at least $ 75 million for the deployment of the network bidding, in return they will get 51% stake.

The Israel Electric Power Company said that the fiber-optic broadband network can cover 10 percent of the country in 2013, and they plan to 2019 to achieve the network coverage of two-thirds of the country. As the same to Australia's national broadband network, the goal of Israeli national broadband plan is to catch up the countries with the fastest Internet access speeds.

Israel may not be able to catch up with Japan, Korea and other densely populated, technologically advanced countries, because these countries tend to cover most of the population through the optical fiber. But It is likely to exceed the United States and other countries which have sparsely populated and against the public network deployment resulting in an average speed decreased.
